Through this PT, I found out that I snacked a lot. But I usually snack on fruits like apples and watermelon. And I really like to drink soya milk. But I should try to reduce my consumption of soya milk as although it is relatively healthy, it still contains quite large amounts of sugar. There are more than 140 reasons why sugar is bad for your health. http://www.rheumatic.org/sugar.htm Sugar can cause heart diseases and can also cause copper deficiency. Thus, I think it is better to control my consumption of soya milk as well as sugar.
I consider my diet a little unhealthy. I consume large amounts of starch(rice). When you digest the starch, amylase breaks the starch molecule down into many sugar molecules. Thus, too much starch is not good for the body. But I consume fruits regularly. Fruits contain fibre, which helps our digestive system to process food and absorb nutrients. It also helps to lower blood cholesterol. Fruits are also 100% bad cholesterol-free. Thus, fruits make my diet healthier.
The suggested nutritional tools are very useful. Firstly, the Energy and Nutritient Composition of foods tool calculates the amount of energy, protein, fats, dietary fibre, carbohydrates, cholesterol, sodium, sugar etc of the foods you consume. This gives you an estimate of how much of each nutrients you receive from respective foods, and thus you can decide whether to increase a decrease intake of a particular food to make your diet healthier. Secondly, the Recipe Analysis tool gives you an estimate of how much of each nutrients you receive from respective foods. And you can also, from the results, alter your recipe and make it healthier for consumption. Lastly, the Healthy Diet Pyramid is the most simple and easy to analyse tool. It is very useful to help little kids understand their diet. However, it is not as specific as the other tools in calculating the amount of specific nutrients.
